Hot Cocoa Mix Recipe
Do It Yourself Wedding Favors
This great do-it-yourself hot cocoa mix recipe is pretty simple to make using some very basic ingredients and a little of your own creativity.
The recipe below will make about 4 cups of hot cocoa so you will need to double it accordingly depending on the quantity you are making for use as wedding favors.
2 cups nonfat dry milk powder
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa
1/2 cup powdered nondairy creamer
1/8 teaspoon salt
Optional: 1/2 cup of semisweet chocolate chips (I use the really small ones)this is optional but it does add an extra-rich chocolaty taste and melts beautifully when you add the boiling water. Yum!! If you use them cut the sugar back to 3/4 cup instead of 1 cup.
Measure all of the ingredients into a bowl and whisk them until they are evenly blended.
The hot cocoa mix recipe can be measured into small ziplock bags and placed into mugs. Add some mini marshmallows, peppermint candy sticks and a spoon. Wrap each filled gift mug in colored cellophane with a tag with the following instructions: "Spoon 3 or 4 heaping tablespoons of cocoa mix into your cup (depending on the spoon size), add boiling water, and stir well.
Variations to the recipe: Peppermint candy can be crushed or broken into little chunks and added to the dry mix.
Try substituting flavored creamers such as French Vanilla, Hazel Nut or Irish Cream in the place of the regular creamer.
Be sure to store the mix in a tightly covered container at room temperature until you're ready to package it. The recipe will make 4 cups so you have a better idea when distributing it evenly into the individual packages.
Have fun and enjoy!
Happy Wedding Day!
